I have one of the first Octopus skimmers, it came with a POS Chinese designed venturi that just sucked. Replacing it with a good one completely changed how it performs. I'd look into seeing if you can buy a good one that can fit, or make one yourself.

58 gallon Oceanic RR, 55 gallon sump, C.R. 130 skimmer, Tunze Nano Stream 6025 x 2, 250 watt Ushio 14k, 2-24 watt Geisemann T-5's.
Amphiprion percula pair, Pseudocheilinus hexataenia, Chromis viridis x 3, Siganus unimaculatus.

well tank is still doing really bad. i have stepped up water changes to 30 gallons a week and i have fixed the skimmer problem i am keeping my salinity perfect and my tank is still slowly wasting away
I have lost all but one and a half of my sps corals. it seems that after every water change either a coral dies or gets closer to dieing. my salinity and temperature matches up fine i am using ro/di water with nearly brand new filters.
this recent thread about bad salt made me think that maybe that could be what is effecting my tank...any thoughts?
also some corals are not effected at all and continue to grow like my 3" dersa clam is fine but my orange plating monti just died a day after my last water change
any ideas are welcome
thanks
geoff

great read i will have to pick up a tds meter...i know
well i dont think i will re set up due to being under the age of 18 and in my parents house who plan on moving in the next year. hope this will solve the problem i hoped that as long as i changed the filters often it would not really need a tds meter but i guess i wont know till i get one. these stupid little things like buying cheap test kits and hydrometers are just bad ideas in general
