View Full Version : Green long tentacle Anemone.
I was at my LFS today and saw a Green Long Tentacle Anemone. Thats what it was labled as. It was $30, about the size of a half dollar but just the most gorgeous green you ever saw.
It looked like a tiny Sebae. I was wondering if it was dyed, it was so pretty. Does anyone have any info on these guys?
Thanks!

No, it was not dyed. That is their natural color :-)
Also, for that price, I wouldn' buy it, even if it was .50, I wouldn't buy it. Anemones have horible success rates in captivity, that most live an average of 3 months in captivity before death, while in the wild it is known for some to be over 1000 years old. We have not figured out the sercrete to actually keeping them alive, one thing is our lighting is not even close to that of the sun. Next, most anemones are bought by beginners, and put into there 2 week old set up, and of coarse they die. Even if you do have best of the best water, best lighting, etc. they still have the tendency to die within 3 months. Anemones anyway, are not a natural reef habitate. They are just put into our tanks for the looks, when in the wild they are usually far anway from any neighboring corals.
Please don't buy it, no matter how hard it is to resist. Think of the price, 30 bucks in unbelivible! Anemones in general, should only be attemped by experienced reefers, who wouldn't mind taking the time to actually care for it; check for infections on the foot, feed a speciel mixture of foods, etc. This is just another coral that is best left in the wild, where they belong, same goes for Goriopora, and Cauliflower Coral.

Thanks Pineapple, I've decided to pass on it.

That's good :-)
I would say, when your tank is at least 1 year old, water parimeters are stable, you are experienced and the care and needs of an anemone, and have good lighting, you could try a bubble tip anemone (BTA). These are definitaly the most hardy anemone, and have addapted to most of our home aquariums.
