The othernight I came home from a race party and my wife was like somethings wrong with the tank. So I went over and looked around and then I saw the heater.

I did something similar to this. I was using a cheap heater and had turned the heat setting the wrong way and melted the plastic. With another one I forgot to unplug it and I put it on a towel. It burnt the towel and my desk :( Then I shoved it into cold water and it exploded. LOL

Dang, What kind of heater was that?
I like the ebo-jager heaters as they seem to be well constructed.
I had one blow up on me in my water mixing tub. I left it plugged in and whe I was taking water out fro a water change it got exposed ot the air. Then when i added water back to the tub to mix another batch just a few min later BANG.
Hope your tank does not have any ill effects. Maybe a water change would be in order. I know when mine blew on the mixing tub I had a black film over the top of the wtaer and the corner of the tub was nice and dark colored.

My first ebo-jager did not shut off and almost cooked my tank i was home for that one, but sent it to them and they sent me a new one. Someone said it before that heaters sould be changed once a year regardless to make it more reliable. Considering it is one of the cheapest pieces of hardware it not bad advice.

They also make those all titanium heaters with a remote themestat. I have not used them but they sure do look cool. Would definatly keep the glass breaking issue down.
well the heater is a Rena 200 watt heater. Only had it for about a year or so. and yes the melted plastic did melt in the water. I plan on doin a water change tomorrow. The glass is also cracked so when I first started looking for the problem I got a slight shock
