HI i'm new here.. i am looking at really going all out on my reef tank... i have a 2000 dollar budget and i am looking at these things i have a mature 75 gallon reef tank with tons of soft and hard corals and am upgrading to a new 175 bowfront reefready from oceanic
chiller 1/3 or 1/4 hp
neptune system controller with probes and controll modules
calcium reactor/system
uv sterilizer
ozone
powerheads
wavemaker/neptune system
i need advice on any of these pieces of equipment.. i know i wont be able to afford all of these but i want some people advice that own any of these or have experience with them, i want to avoid buying low quality stuff.. or stuff that wont do the job right, my main concern is the calcium reactors, and power heads for a wave maker, and controller for the neptune system thing i'm getting
thanks,
Sincerely,
Aaron Moon

WHat do you plan for lighting and skimmer and return pump these would be my main concerns
chiller 1/3 or 1/4 hp - What type of lights? This might not be needed. Fan might be enoughs. Also check out
neptune system controller with probes and control modules-very nice option. If you plan on using ozone get the pro model it supports ORP
calcium reactor/system- Great add on for any reef. Check out the Marine Life Products. I use a Marine Life CR500 Calcium Reactor with a Reef Fanatic Dual Gauge CO2 Regulator and I really like it.
uv sterilizer- Not needed
ozone - nice to have but not needed
powerheads - Maxijets
wavemaker- I would go with Reef Fanatic Wave Creator
Using the neptune with X10 would be loud for on/off cycles

I see you live in KS. Do you have AC in your house? What is the average summer time temp for your area?
I doubt you NEED a chiller. In fact unless your ambient temp in the room that you are keeping your tank is is above 90F I would say you dont need one and you could emply fans as irisservice has mentioned.
Fans are real easy to use if you mount a few in your canopy to vent the lights and also mount a few over your sump to blow across the water suface of your sump.
This will enhance your evaporation and also lower the temp of the water.

:D
This is great... so much better than those e-groups it takes forever to get replies..... on the lighting i'm getting a hood with 2 175 metal halides and 2 96 watt pc lamps with fans and protective lenses..... i have lots of heat because my sump pump is in-sump and creates some significant heat.. and the electricity here is amizingly high so keeping the room that the tank is in, cold is difficult.. that and i know the halides will add allott of heat... not to mention the neptune system will give me seasonal and day and night temp controll and i like that so i can keep some acropora and some other sps corals that are more sensitive to conditions

seeing as your budget is in the 2G range...a chiller is (IMO) out of the question...
however, i too second the notion that more that likely you're not going to even need a chiller...
also...a UV sterilizer would be counter-productive on your reef.
save for the cost of a decent R/O unit...
