I have this weird film that is on top of the surface of my aquarium. It is not algae or any like that. I has a clear blotchy appearance. It acts like oil, when i put my finger in it moves away. I don't have a net til tomorrow because old ones were crap and I just through them away. It sort of looks like kalkwasser. I dosed with that this morning, but I don't think it's that because I dosed 2 aquariums and the other has no film. Any cluues?

My water movement is very good I think thats what is keeping the stuff at the top. Nothing is dead. All fish are accounted for.

Ok I turned up my 2 powerheads and my filter all the way. It seems to be helping because now my filter is actually picking up the stuff. What was kind of weird is my skimmer isn't doing anything. I don't think my corals like it too much. So I think everything is going to be ok. I'll post something new in the morning cause I gotta go to sleep cause I have school tomorrow :(

What you was seeing was a collection of DOC's at the surface of the water. I suspect while your water movement was good the surface movment was not so good. If you position the PH's to break up the water surface more than the DOC's will not be able to collect at the water surface as much.
Is your skimmer a surface skimmer or a skimmer that pulls from below the surface of the water? if its not a surface skimmer then it would not be able to get to the surface skim because the intake is below the surface.
This film usually develops when water movment at the surface is low. In the past I have used a cup to try to skim off this film from time to time. Now I have a overflow in the tank so the top layer of water is being moved to the sump all the time and such film can not collect.

I totally agree with fishfreak. I keep my surface water rippling like waves almost. (Just not so much that it puts bubbles in my tank) with a power head.
