I just got a Niger Trigger and been reading about them and it says they can be placed with some inverts. What types would that be? I know they eat hermits and shimp, so what kind of cleanup crew can I have?

Our Niger has been in our 180 for about 6 months now. He lives with a coral banded shrimp, cleaner shrimp, sand sifting starfish, tiger tail cucumbers, and 20+ hermit crabs. I have never seen him touch or even make a hostile move towards an invert. He even gets cleaned by the cleaner shrimp. He is a bastard towards the Blue Jaw and Picasso but doesn't bother anybody else. Now the Picasso... that guy can make a quick meal of a snail or hermit crab but hasn't touched the shrimp.

But like you said your Niger is in a 180 gal tank. My tank is only a 20 gallon (of corse it's temp for now) which makes things a little bit closer in there for him to see.

Yeah you're right 180 - 20 is a huge difference. I hope the 20 is very temp or else you might want to keep an eye on the clown as well. Niger's get very territorial. Ours bullies everyone except the male blonde naso and the mated pair of clowns (the female is almost as big as the Niger)

Good luck,
Jason

A Niger trigger has no place in a 20-gn. tank. I bought mine at 2" long, & in less than a year he was over 7" long; no kidding. He likes to get my coral banded shrimp to clean him, & he ignores my chocolate chip star unless it gets too close to his hiding places, then he just drags it away. He doesn't bother anyone else, even the very small fish, unless they get between him & his meals  There's just no way he can fit in a 20, especially with that clown.
