Wow that is a lot of hair algae that is going to get out of control real quick. How old is your tank? If it is not established yet (i.e. corals in place, aquascaping complete) you could take the rocks out and scrub/prune all the hair off of them. If not then getting a lawnmower blade blenny or similiar herbivore, turbo snails, or some other algae eater is your best bet.

Can't help you with the 2nd pic.

a refugium with microalgae will do the trick and some herbivorous fish ... lawnmower blenny was a great suggestion. also tangs are great algae grazers as well as species of pygmy angels.

HELLO ALL
It's been a long while the algae is still bad.
I think it was my lighting 4 t12 bulbs.
I have upgraded to a 260 pc setup.
The algae seams to have stoped growing also.

Thank's for the help if anyone else has this problem please let me know.

it probably slowed down because the current growth is using all the nutrients in your tank. your tank is probably more healthy than its ever been because of the algae actually;but its not to asthetically pleasing. try any algae eating animals we suggested. or you could remove it by hand. very messy though as you can imagine. a tang would really make light work of it all. same wit a lawnmower blenny. best of luck.

i have the three most sucessful steps to getting rid of hair algea, and they are as follows:

1. locate all the rock which have hair algea on them,

2.open the front door or closes windows, and then:

3. threw them as far as you can.

if that method doesn't work...then idont know what will!

LOL

get a sea rabbit? i think it is called, clear my problem after 4-5 different things

I like that one. My girl would throw me out. She took the check book away after she found out how much it is.

I have picked at it. For the time every thing's good. The hair algae is still
Every where put just not as bad? It's just hard to find places to place my frags. The alga takes over it. And I have to go in and clean it off.
But yes my water chem. is super.
One time I let it go on one rock it grew 5 inches or so long.
I think it wanted to come out of the tank. Or maybe pool me in?
Don't know I'll try and post an update later on my tank now.

I had the same problem as I am sure everyone has at one time or another. Tnags are the cows of the sea but not good if your tank is small. I used Emerald crabs adn a bunch of blue legged hermits my lawnmower blenny did great unti he jumped ship (tank). My turbos even had at the hair algae. The best advice though is to slowly add algae eating livestock until the algae starts losing the battle and then let it slowly disappear. If you over populate to get rid of it fast you will have a livestock die-off from starving. Good luck

I know what you mean about the over stocking thing. I have a defective lawn mower for now any way. He does not like to eat hair alge.
Dang....
