I currently pay to have distilled water delivered to my house ($5.25 per 5 Gallon). In an effort to save money I was considering buying a Kent Marine Deion 200 or 200R. I have owned a kent RO unit in the past and nearly flooded my house on 2 occaisons. So the idea of no waste water and no pressure problems really appeals to me. My main question I have now is how difficult is it to recharge the resins? From what I can gather it requires a 4% HCl solution and about 24 hours? Even if I just went with the non rechargable unit and had to change the cartridges monthly, I estimate I would save about $20 - $25 monthly.

Has anyone ever used one of these units? Is it worth the time and money to get the rechargable unit. Thanks all for any help !!

DI resins have to be separated to recharge them. There is a positive and a negative resin combination.

HCL is the regenerate used for the negative resin (you are trying to get the Hydrogen Ion out of the HCL). The positive resin is recharged with a strong base (looking for the OH). There is potential for burns to your skin and eyes and you cannot dispose of the left over in the city drain. If you mix the two they will explode.

Your other idea (unless you are a chemist) is a lot better. You will also be assured the regeneration is complete.

You may want to look at the refillable resin HOUSINGS. We use a distributor tube in the housing (instead of filters) this gives you more resin for the same money, and with the set up you are considering, we can sell you "bulk resin" for even less.

It is just a thought, but if your not very careful it could be disastrous
