View Full Version : GARF coral?
Geothermal Aqua-culture Research Foundation, or some such, offers soft corals. They are usually 5 for one hundred bucks, you get some choice. Has anyone done business with them? I am looking to jump start the reef a little bit. It seems like a good deal, even if they are small. Any feedback would rule.

if a mod says it's good, and they have a special on coral's then i would do it
They ALWAYS have that special. I have been all over that site, for months, and it is always there. I thought of trying their home-made live rock thing, too. I just bought lace rock to build up my reef, and moved my older, actual live rock, to the top of the reef. That works, too.

I got my garf shipment of stuff in today, i got the grunge, grunge lite, and the sand booster. i pretty much felt robbed, out of 20lbs of grunge stuff i couldnt fine one single pod, not one single worm, the only single thing i found that was alive was part of a micro star. believe me i searched good. they claim there stuff is loaded with critter's  i was highly disapointed. the grunge lite/ live sand booster is just sludge, the grenge, and grunge plus looks like aquarium gravel. it hardly had any coraline algae. at 5 buck's a pound you expect to at least get 1 bristle worm, or a few pod's. I hate to see the coral's they are selling. with tampa bay live sand you can at least see the pod's,bristle worm's and starfish. GARF SUCKS!!!!!!!

I have purchased clean up crews from Garf. I have been very satasified with what I recieved. I got 2 free corals with each order. My first order I got a star polip and a zoo. They were both wonderful frags about 2 inches with 2 different types of corals on each. My second clean up I could not wait to see the corals. Well I was very disapointed. I called back and spoke to Norm. He indicated the owners were putting things togeter durring the xmas rush and sometimes do not send the best stuff for the freebies. He put me down for 2 free ones with my next order. I am not sure what to say at this point. If the corals you get are like my 1st ones you will love them. If there like my second ones will you could be disapointed. I will say one thing about my second corals. I have re attached them to other rocks and they are growing and doing nicely. I have recently found a guy in Indianapolis that I will visit in 2 weeks. His stuff looks Great on the net. If he has nice stuff I will post his link.

I would give them like a B-. My frags were small, some came unhealthy but the ones that were healthy are doing great. Here are a couple then and nows of my favorite two...

I went to Coral Sand Bar (http://www.coralsandbar.com/). On Sunday. I purchased the 5 for $75.00. I recieved 3 large Zoo frags about the size of a silver dollar and looking very good. The colors are great and 2 of them have 2 types growing on it. So I got 5 colors on 3 frags. Blue, green & orange, peach/pink and blue, and the largest frag about the size of 2 silver dollars is neon green centers with a blue ring. That one is the coolest. I also got 2 ricordia polips orange and green and orange and blue with neon green centers. each polip has 3 centers and that counted as 1. Usualy each center is 1. I feel I got a great deal. He has a small opperation but will go there next time I am in Indianapolis. If anyone else has ordered from him let me know what you think. I stoped by and hand picked mine but I still think if you order you will get nice stuff.

Get the orange and green with the neon centers. They are the coolest under the actinic and moon lights.

Gregoryalln,
Why don't you call them. I was not happy about needing to place another order to get my corals but since they were free I guess I can not complain. My buddy is going to need a cleanup crew soon and I am going to have them put it with his order. I think you should be able to work something out. I spoke to Norm who was very helpful and more than accomidating.
Sometimes phone works better than e-mail.

Im not disagreing with you since my last order was not what I expected. I am hopeful that was just a mistake close to the hollidays. From what I have read lately I am beginning to think it may not be. I am going to let my buddy order his cleanup crew from them and we will see what they send us. If it is not like my first order then I will not purchase again. I am very happy with the Coralsandbar that I posted eariler. Everything looks great. But you cant beat hand picking your frags!!
