Welcome Marc!
I have to agree. Using uncured rock will save you quite a bit of money, and it will cure itself in your tank, helping with the nitrofying bacteria growth with the die-off.
If you were to add un cured rock to an asstablished aquarium, likely you will get off 're cycling' or having a small spike in your tank from the matter dying off.

I like to get a mixture of live rock. I have fiji, tonga, base/lava, and arabian rock. I would try to get a mixture of rock in the tank, which seems to make the tank look more natural. Arabian rock is known for having plate shapes, fiji is known for having lots of life, tonga is known for branching out of the rockwork, and the base rock is used underneth all the rock. Base rock is much cheaper than fiji, for the fact that it doesn't have as much life on it. Find whatever works for you; fiji and tonga are both my favorites :)

If you are starting a new aquarium go with un-cured. If it's an add on and your tank has already cycled go with cured. There is also a type of rock called Marshall Island. I use Marshall, Fiji, and Florida Deco Rock.
