View Full Version : Algea ID Please
This algea can be scrapped off. It has a felt-like look to it. I have it in 3 or 4 patches :? Any help would be appreciated. Will something eat it?
hmm, is it growing in more intense light or not so much intense light?

I can't exactly get to the spot which you are talking about? It might be a heavy layer of coralline algae. It would help if you discribed it a bit better, maybe it would be easier to ID.
PH =)
I will try and describe it better.
It is growing in the well-lighted area. When i tried to remove some, it had the same feeling of peeling some moss off of a rock in a stream or lake. It came of in large pieces with a ripping feel. It is thicker and more dense than any other algea I have seen. If that makes any sense at all! :? :lol:
A couple of weeks ago I replaced my lighting with the new JBJ Formosa Deluxe 1200 65W. Looks like it is getting larger and more of it.
Does this help?
hmm, well do you have any corals?
Yes: Frogspawn, Yellow Pagoda, Kenya Tree, Zoanthids, Sea Whip, Riccordea
well let me first say cool tank! Well i was going to suggest maybe reducing the hours your lights are on gradually do it and see what happens!
Thanks. :) I'll play it by eye :) and see what this stuff does after I removed it. it you come up with any thing else let me know. C-ya 'round..
No problem good luck and keep us updated

Hmm...I hate to say but I have no clue?
The best I could do, is have you check out this thread (http://www.reeflounge.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=224) and click the link for the reefs.org hitchiker FAQ. See if it might be listed in there :)
BTW- Nice tank! :-D

Cyanobacteria!!! If it is Cyano (which I think it is) It will come off of the rock just by waving your hand and making a strong current over it. It is the missing link between algae and bacteria. Just reduce light cycle by 30 min or so. and siphon it out.
