Ok all...I believe I have finally decided on what equipment I want to buy for my 120RR...just wanted to get some opinions on this list...if anyone has any other suggestions, please by all means...

Heater: Pro Heat 200W Titanium Heater x2 (already have 1 150W EJ)
MD Lighting: 175W ballast, 2 mogul sockets, 2 20,000K bulbs (or should I go with 10,000K)
VHO Lighting: Ice Cap 660, Ice Cap Variable Speed Fan w/ Temp Probe, 2 48" 10,000K and 1 48" 50/50 and 1 48" Actinic
Future Addition to VHO Setup: Solar 1000 L-1 Dimmer Control for dusk/dawn and weather paterns
Skimmer: AquaC EV180 w/ Mag7 pump
Power Heads: Either 2 Maxi Jet 1200 or 2 Power Sweep 228 (may choose power sweep for wave action)
Sump: 10 gallon aquarium from Wal-Mart :D
Refugium: 29 gallon aquarium with DSB, small amount of Live Rock and macro algea
Return Pump: Supreme Mag 24

Tank to have 4" DSB courtesy of 250 lbs of South Down (and hopefully some additions of sand from existing reef tanks in my area *hint hint* :D )...approximately 100-120 lbs of live rock...

If I missed something let me know...

Wow, sounds awesome!

But, I would say get another Maxi Jet, for a total of 3, 1200 power heads. I would place one on the left side of the tank, pointing into the tank (Right). Place the second one on the right side of the tank, about 5 inches from the top waterline. have this pointing up. This will be used as a gas exchange. Place the last one in the back behind some live rock. This will be used from not keeping things settled, such as detrius.

Other than that, everything sounds fine. You might want to get a 20 gallon sump instead of a 10 gallon, but thats JMO. The skimmer is fine, but if you wanted to do better, you could get a euro reef skimmer (http://www.euro-reef.com). But, the skimmer you have listed will do the job. You might want to buy another 150 or 200wt heater. You want to try and get a good 5wts per gallon with heating, along with a spare one in case one heater breaks down, you have a spare.

On the refugium, I would say get 2 or 3, 9wt PC bulbs. You didn't list what type of lighting you were planning on getting.

Im glad that your planning the tank out before you buy it! :-)

Sorry, should have mentioned...I already have a Penquin 170. Was gonna put that one behind the live rock.

As for the skimmer, I have reconsidered. I already decided to go with the Euro Reef CS6-2. It is virtually the same price as the first one I had listed with $10. I don't remember if I listed it or not, but I already have a 150W EJ heater to add to the w 200W heaters I'm going to get. The 150W was going to go into my sump.

On the refugium, I would say get 2 or 3, 9wt PC bulbs. You didn't list what type of lighting you were planning on getting.

The lighting for the refugium is going to actually be simple and inexpensive. American Lighting makes an outdoor light that produces 6500K and is sold at our local Home Depot for a very good price. I've seen alot of posts at other boards that say this is an excellent light for a 'fuge. It will be to the inside of my stand directly above the 'fuge.

I'm glad that your planning the tank out before you buy it! :-)

I'm planning it out mainly because my wife convinced me to get into the salt water hobby a few months ago. The problem we faced was two LFS that took advantage of the fact we didn't know what we were talking about when we walked through the doors. Not gonna let that happen again!

Return Pump: This i think you should look around for somthing a little better

Why do you think we need a better pump. I have been told these are good pumps. The guy I got the tank from was running one and personally recommended it.

These pumps are great in low pressure situations,I have tried it in my tank and it a 72g rr and it use to get very hot and then finally Burt out. I then switch to a Rainbow quiet one pump have had no problems. Also your tank has two returns you might want to think of two pumps.I however use the mag 5 on my skimmer and that works fine but it only pumping 8" away.

first off...
http://www.reefcentral.com/images/welcome.gif

while i completely approve of your future setup, i encourage you to get a larger sump, perhaps a 20 or 30 gallon...that way, with the refugium, your filter is near half the volume of you tank. aslo, i reccomend if you want the wave action get a wave master...and stick with the maxi jet, steer away from the power sweep. i've heard on more than one occasion these types of pumps eventually seize, especially in saltwater set-ups that have DSB's...and "eventually" is a day i'm sure you wouldn't want to hope for!

great start! what types of things are going to have the priviledge of living in your tank? best of luck!!!

Gonna have some fish, soft coral and LPS (I think those are the easier to keep between SPS and LPS, might be backwards though  ) and lots of crabs and snails, some shrimp and maybe a cucumber...

Anyone have any suggestions for fish that are truly beautiful (color and attitude) and go well with corals? Any other inhabitant suggestions?

Tangs, such as the Yellow eyed tang (Kole tang), blue tang, yellow tang, powerder brown tang, power blue tang, etc will do awesome in your tank. Others like clowns (Moroon, percula, saddle back, cinommon, tomato, etc) will also do good. Fire fish, such as the Red Fire fish, purple fire fish, or even the helfrinch fire fish will do good. Blennys will also do good, same with green chromis damsels (Most other damsels are nice, cheap, but extremely agresive). Cardinels will also do well, same with Gramma's, sucgh as the neon gramma/basslet/goby, royal gramma, blackcap basslet, strawberry gramma, etc. Those are just a few ideas. I would recommend checking out:
www.fishindex.com and look at the fish they have listed :-)

I would recommend 250 wt mh.
price should be close, if DIY.
If you ever go with higher k bulbs, the watt's will make up for loss of brightness. ie with 20k bulbs.
Ive heard that the Aqualine Spacelight's are great.$$

Unfortunately, due to under tank size (damn Oceanic Stands :D ) I am limited. SO...I have purchased a wonderful 111 Qt. rubbermaid container for my 'fuge and have the 10g sump. Wish I had more space. Would really like to be able to put a bigger refugium on top the tank or beside it, but the boss/wife refuses to allow this. :D
