anybody have some tips on how to secure my live rock when I get it here?

I don't want it to tumble on my acrylic glass and scratch it!

I have read several things from aquarium safe glue (but how would you get it out if you had to move?) to even drilling the rock and putting acrylic rods through it.

Any suggestions?

I just arrange my rock so that its stable if i try to move it gently with my hands.

I arrange my rock so its not tightly stacked and there are plenty of places for fish/water to flow in and around the rocks but at the same time use the natural shape of the rocks to interlock it all together.

I have heard of using dowles or plastic pegs to hold the rock together if you drill holes into it. Or I have also heard of using black tip ties. Over time the zip ties will cover with coraline and you will not notice them.

My best advise I can give you, is to not buy roudner shaped rocks!! These will be much harder to stack!

Next, as fishfreek said, try not to have a wall, but more like an open area for fish to swim through. Be creative with this, have all sorts of cracks here and there; have fun!

I like to buy a mixure of rocks. I like tonga rocks sticking out of the fiji rock, this is exelent to have some xenia growing on. Some arabian rock can be used for flate ledges, these are exelent to add some sand on top of, and add clams, plates, and SPS frags

It's also important to leave some swimming room in the front of the tank. I recommend you take a look at some of the tanks in the 'Rate my tank' forum or 'Tank of the month' forum, to get some good ideas on your rockwork.

There are many good ways to position rock, this is where it's really up to you and your preferences, and where your creativity comes into hand. This is what makes our tanks different form everyone else's :)

i know of several people who have drilled their LR...

drilling can be done with a masonary bit, and then plastic rods placed into the LR, making a solid foundation...

You can use Crazy Glue Gel. It is some kind of adhesive that is ok to use. I cant think of the kind of adhesive but I know that it is in "Super Glue Gel". If I can remember I will post the exact technical name of the adhesive.

Silicone will hold well and can be seperated when a move is needed. Just use enough to secure it but not so much that it will bond forever. Just a dab here and there. I used it in my Ciclid tank because the fish kept knocking ledges down. I have a friend who used silicone in his 46g bowfront and it has worked solidly well. Hope this helps.
