Ok... I have one porcupine puffer that is as healthy as a horse. He is not even close to being under weight and he is very social. He will come up to the tank and follow me around until i feed him.

Well, I just bought another porcupine and when i got him he was pretty slim but not sickly slim. He is really healthy too but when i go to feed him ( i feed them freeze dried krill and frozen food) he will grab a piece of krill chew on if FOREVER and spit some of it out. My other puffer will eat lots of the fdk and not spit any of it out. (he might be fat lol)

Do you think my new puffer will be ok he seems very healthy and he is eating some but not as much as I would like to see him eat???

Also are there different types of Porcupine puffers?? One i have is light in color with a white body while the new one has VERY dark spots and a white belly with a black rim around it. Plus his eyes are black while my other has the blue crystal eyes.

Thanks
Laura

I really don't know what to tell you about his eating habits but I would keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse(hopefully not). As for your other question about different types: I found only 1 that is described as a porcupine puffer but there is a simmilar looking fish called a spiny box fish. check ou the link. Hope this helps.

I picked up a porcupine yesterday at my LFS. It appears to be VERY healthy. WHen i put him in the tank he was sooo lively, swimmin everywhere and such. Now he just kind of perches under a little overhang near the bottom. If i stick my hand down there he gets up and swims all over. Could it just be tank acclimation? None of the other fish seem to pay n e attention to him. I hand fed him some crab meat he seemed to enjoy this morning. Ate 3 pieces. Maybe he is just a lil tired. I havent seen any puffers in established tanks so I am not aware of their enviornment habits nor have i found much information on them. I kno they do get very personable, i dont expect him to kno who i am considering the LFS got him yesterday, he was prolly there for 6 hours before i got him... maybe still stressed from shipping etc...

Mine do that all the time... one will actually lodge himself in a rock so nothing can bother him.

I have a porky that looks like your but i have another one that has totally different colors and i am sure it is a porky.

mine just lie down till it is time to eat, I am sure he is fine

He seemed to be ok, he would eat some crabmeat. I noticed last night that he was swimmin around and such. But i woke up this morning and he doesnt look too good. My Nitrate level was up near 80ppm, which it was like 20-30 last time i checked it. He is just sitting on the bottom breathing heavily, has me worried. I did a 30% water change and the Nitrite Nitrate levels went down by almost 1/2. Im worried bout him~!? I got him up and moving he just seems weak. The other occupants are fine
