I added my water last night and it got very cloudy (which I expected) when I checked it out this morning there was about a 1/16 inch layer of silt on top of the sand (agrogate sand purchased from the lfs). What I was wondering is do I need to try to remove some of the silt by stirring it up and removing it with some sort of filter or is it ok?

btw my sand bed is 5 to 6 inches deep.

I had that as well!!! I just left a low current powerhead in there and after a couple of days it went away. There were some items that needed to be removed with the net but not much.

This appears to be a very fine powder covering everything?

just wipe it with your hand. It will be fine. it will settle.
