hi all-
about 2 months ago i moved everything from my too full 55g to this 100g tank. i added 30 more pounds of liverock, 100 pounds of sand, a few sps frags, a small clam and a cynaria (sp.?) that you can see in the bottom right corner behind the xenia.
i also upgraded the lighting from 4x96w pc to 2x175 mh + 2x96w pc actinics. i'll be removing at least one of the powerheads because i just added a closed loop for better circulation.
there's a 20g sump with a sock and about 30 pounds of lr, a southbay skimmer and early next year i'm gonna add a refugium.
i know there are improvements i can make but so far most everything seems to be doing pretty well. any suggestions you have to improve it are greatly appreciated.
oh yeah- there are a few fish you can't see- the male maroon clown is arond back tending the eggs. there's a multi-colored angel down in the rocks somewhere, a watchman goby probably poking his head out and trying to stay out of the way of the pistol shrimp earthmover, and a tiny red headed goby. and... a pair of fire shrimp, a pair of harlequin shrimp and a pair of peppermint shrimp.
my fingers are tired

Great looking tank :)

Looking back now, which tank do you like better? the New 100 Gallon or the old 55 Gallon?

I was looking to get another tank, either a 55, 72 bow or 100 and want to see which you prefer and what are the pros and cons of the 2 tanks you have had

i love the 100- it's a great size. one of the things i love about it is that i can easily reach the bottom of the tank. that makes cleaning the bottom front possible without a lot of hassle. with the 55 i had to get something to stand on and it was still really hard to reach the bottom- i ended up letting coraline algae grow on the front a little bit. and that hid a lot of cool stuff.
the tank is still tall enough to allow for low light corals- i have lots of nooks and crannies and there seems to be a spot for every lighting need.
another cool thing is that even though the tank is five feet long i still get decent coverage with my [old] 36" actinic pc's. i have two 175w metal halides too and it seems to be enough light to keep everything happy.
hope this helps,
greg

thanks! funny you should mention the anemones- they spawned last night- turned the whole tank cloudy. but by morning you'd never know. that's the fifth spawn in the 6 weeks i've had the tank up. shrimp twice, clowns twice and now the anemones. datsa lotta action!

wow...

....who knows...maybe you'll start breeding the fish and inverts :-D

The only thing I've had spawn is the cleaner shrimp, but IMO, it was just a giant feeding frenzy. I would see small little shrimp, about half the size of a mysis shrimp, all over the tank being eating by all the fish and corals

yep- that sounds about right. my corals have been getting a lot of extra meals lately. i took a picture of my sun polyp last night while the anemone was spawning- wow! talk about a happy coral :)
