i have heard that you are not supposed to run a skimmer on a refugium, does anyone have any input on this?

There's nothing wrong with running a skimmer and a refugium on the same tank. You just need to run the skimmer in a section after the refugium. In other words, you want the water to pass through the refugium before it goes into the skimmer. That way, your not taking anything away from the refugium in terms of nutrients.

heh, topic of much debate. :)
I feel the exact opposite, the skimmer could rob the water column of beneficial pods and such from the fuge. I would never run a skimmer after a fuge, only before.
