i just picked up 5lbs of premium tonga $7.97lb(so the petshop said) placed into my 20g with 18lbs of rock from another store $3.99 per lb,after one day a noticed what can only be described as a foul stench no person should ever smell coming from my tank the rock was supposed to be fully cured, removing the rock i found it to crumble in my hands or snap quit easily when this happened the rock was BLACK on the inside and full of decaying HUGE fat worms,i returned the rock and got the typical "well this has never happened to us before "excuse and my money back thankfully,so my two questions are
1.what the hell was wrong with this rock ,is this normal ?.
2.were around vancouver can you get fully cured good rock .
thanks for any advice :)

it sounds like it was not cured yet :(
you could always ask the store to test the water to see if it been cured by
the lvls of the test, thats what i have done.

Sounds like it wasn't even rock, but more like a dead coral or partially coral with rock that was covered in corraline.

no rock is ever fully cured bottom line people can claim all they want. cause evn in the short trip formt he store to your tank any of those sponges in or on the rock will trap air and die. best thing to do is when you get your new rock do a freshwater dip for about 15 - 30 secs and get a tooth brush and srcub off anything black or dying.
i agree sounds like it was more coral then rock and the inside was the zoos and worms eating the decaying coral.
