Hey guys,
First off, this site is awsome! So much info, i was blown away!
Im new to SW, i've keep FW for too long, now its time to go SW. Im using a 35g. Im deciding on what equipment to pick up.
i've read a lot of the treads here. I have decided to use 40-50 lbs of live rock a DSB and a skimmer.
Im trying to decide on a skimmer so heres my question.
Does anyone here use or have any opinions on the Seaclone 100 or the prizm? Need a HOB, no room for a sump.
Thanks.
hey
let me say welcome to the board. I have heard ok things about both none are either that great. Seaclone is probably IMO the worse choice to chose i would go with a prizem. The best kind of hang on the back IMO is the bakpak 2.

I would not go with either. The Prizm does not work. The Seaclone 100 works for a couple of days and then needs to be readjusted. But if i had to choose i would go with the Seaclone. If a good skimmer in not in the budget then don't get one. I would recommend you holding off until a budget for under $200.00. Here is a list of good budget skimmers.
Bak-Pak 2R: Reef Ready $120.00
AquaC Remora Hang-On $160.00 the best in my opinion
Red Sea Prizm Pro Deluxe HO $175.00

everyone seems to hate the SeaClone skimmers but I am just wondering how many people that have actually used one hate it?

I would not go with any of them. Bak Pak all the way.

I have had good luck with a prizm on a 29. It's a good little skimmer for the money. Don't let other's bad experiences keep you from one if you want a cheap small skimmer that does a decent job. I use a Red Sea Berlin Classic on my 75 which does a better job but it costs 3 times as much.

I have used both and like both and they both work just fine.
What people often try to do is compair a $70 or less skimmer to a skimmer that is 2X or more expensive. Thats not a fair compairson in my view.
For the price they both work equilly well.
Most of the issues with the seaclone was back when it was first introduced. It has now gone thru at least 2 different revisions and the current shipping product works just fine for small tanks.

a modified "supreme" skilter 250 or 400 is a cheap alternative...if you put an airstone in the chamber it works out nicely, and is much quiter than a venturi driven skimmer.
supreme makes nice pumps...

I use a sea clone and it works great. I cant compare it to more expensive ones because I have never owned one. I have also heard of lots of people going skimmerless. I hear either go skimmerless or go with one that cost 250 bucks. That dont make sense to me, so I went with a middle of the road product. I will say one thing, I never have to make adjustments on it, and it always pulls waste from the water.

I like my seaclone just fine it works really well. I got it a long tome ago though 3 years or so. It still works fine. I like it but back then I got ripped I paid like $120 for it  I coulda got something better. I was fairly new to the reef hobbie and did not know any better.

hey man no dissing on the prizm skimmer I have a 110 oceanic show tank with one emperor 400 and a prizm skimmer and this tank houses 142 pounds of live rock and 15 pieces of corals not to mention the 14 fish that are in there that prizm skimmer does the job superbly on my tank I have no complaints .the only thing I do do extra for this skimmer is that I set the flow and then when I need to drain it I just unplug it for a minute or two clean the resivore then plug it back in.

irisservice list is great! I have the bakpak on my 46bow. It works fine, just as we are on topic, how much liquid should the skimmer be removing? Or, how often should i need to be cleaning it so it doesnt overflow?
