   I have been reading some threads on RC and I am not sure but I don't think the members like each other very much. There is so much flaming between answers to questions. Reading on that site gives me a headache. It really makes me thankful I found Reef Lounge. :D :D

Yep, That is a common problem with RC. What makes it worse is that the most common flammers are those 'experts' or mods.
I would not mind banning some of them from my site should I ever get the chance. :)

For a while I wondered why the moderators were so quick to jump in on this site, but now I know what they are trying to avoid. I now say THANK YOU!!!!!

it's the one thing that i fear...
i hope we (moderators) handle things quickly and rationally...
some other sites (not singling any one site out) have become unhealthy, in the fact that, like mentioned, it a bunch of flamming going back and forth on each other. and it's sad...people should want to use an informative site to learn, not criticize. we're trying to make ReefLounge.com as constructive as possible, and we appreciate everyone's supportive attitudes.
THANKS TO EVRYONE FOR MAKING THIS A GREAT SITE!!!!! :D   8)

You would figure in a hobby like reef tanks people would be calm and kind to each other, I agree that sometimes you need to discuss (not argue) points, but with so many members you will get many different opinions, And I think the mods do a great job, and also the members here are much more civil :) We got a great group of people, now we just have to keep it that way :)
One day we will have 18,000 members and no Flames :)

I was trying to help. really i was
my head hurts.
Im so glad it,s all over now.
I like rc but they do have there bad points
yes, I wa over at RC to and boy a lot of flares. But I can understand I mean so many different oppions.
there can be a grumpy one but look how many members there are. You will get flamed if you over stock a tank etx, but not for no reason...
And plus, the moderators there are cool, mods, they have a way harder job and a lot more posts to look at every day.

I used to lurck around at RC a bit. I really get tired of of the experts that think their way is the only way to do things. People really get weird over there. I like the more laid back feeling of this board. Plus I am among one of the first to sign up (#16).

Darn Jollymon, you beat me by 10 whole members  lol
I have to agree. Some of those 'experts' over at RC can be quite difficult to cope with. I actually prefer more calm boards, rather than crowded boards. For one, your threads will get washed down a couple 4 pages in 3 minutes. There was one dude over at RC (not saying this persons name) who argued quite a bit that his way was the only way to do things. RC can be a great place for quality information, especielly fast information, but there can be pretty nasty flames here and there :( I have found many people over at RC who are really great people though, but it's just those ones that think there way is the way to go.

let's keep in mind that RC has good points too...i don't want this to be an entire thread bad mouthing RC...
i've gotten plenty of helpful advice there...
(although in a few of those "helpful advice" threads...i did get flamed  )
but really it's all in how people think...
i was ridiculed on a certain website about trying to keep a philipine sea apple...some folks called me flat out stupid! i totally disagreed with the closed minded opinions...the way i look at it, how are we ever to learn the special needs of exotic creatures if we never give them the time of day?
anyhow, i'm just thankful i can call ReefLounge home...and glad i have a lot of cool people to talk with here !!!:D

There is good reason to give caution about sea apples, although I would not tell someone never do it. I speak from personal experience, pray you have a male.
It is rare, but after doing some research have found it not uncommon that sea apple female will spawn in the absecnce of a male. Their eggs are toxic when ruptured. They will quickly foul the water and kill every fish in the tank. They do not seem to affect anything else however. Crabs, snails, eels, anemone's and corals show no signs of stress provided large water changes are done immediately.
I do however see the same things concerning the attitude my way is the only way not just on the sites mentioned thus far but, on every site I have been to. Sometimes it's passion, sometimes it's arrogance, but I find in most cases it's lack of understanding.
There are countless ways of doing the same things and acheiving the same goals in this hobby. What may work for some may not work for others and the key is tolerance and understanding. As long as the basics are understood clearly and that success comes from stability.
Cheers

for the record, i did have a male...and when he spermed in the tank, it got messy...sperm=foam=comming out the canopy=all over the wood floor.
perhaps when i have a huge reef set up i'll get the violaceus species again...but right now i don't have the proper volume to have such a beautiful creature...
found him a good home!
