I have 20 gallon reef that has been set up for about a month. I have some live rock and 5 fish. I have a brown algae problem but that isn't my concern. On the back glass a red film is starting to form. What is that? Is it slime algae? Is it bad? Please help.

I found that I had my lights on too long, so i adjusted them to be on less and the red algae went away. Also your tank is only a month old, have you done any water changes? What do you have in the tank?

I second for cyano algae. Do a search on 'Red Slime/ Cyano algae' on the site, i'm sure you'll find some fantastic links and threads!

Pedro,

I had a brush with Cyano early on as well.
It was growning on my aragonite and a little on the glass.
A couple of things I did to get rid of it were change around the water flow to get rid of the "dead spots" like in corners, etc. I also did a 5 - 10 gallon water change every week for about 2 months.
When I would do the change I would stir up as much of the cyano as possible and suck it up in the syphon.

It seemed to get rid of it so far for good...

Good luck!
Scott
