Ive had this tank going for about 9 months now. No coral yet, because im saving for better lighting and water movement.

70lbs live rock
tomato clown
2 blue devil damsels
humbug damsel
yellowtail damsel
sandsifting star
banded coral shrimp
skunk cleaner shrimp
5 turbo snails (plus 30 or so babies)
2 other snails (forgot the name...red striped somethin or other)
10 red hermits
20 blue hermits

I plan on getting rid of more damsels once i save up for bigger and better upgrades. Im a college student on a budget...so this hobbie takes a little mroe time than usual.

Anyways here are some pics.

nice lookin tank. only have a few comments tho.

that star fish and cbs shrimp will give you trouble in the future if they havent alrdy. the blue legs if they arent electricwill start killin other hermits and snails for shells. and the snails if they are red may eithe rbe a moon snail or a baha snail.

I havent had any problems with any of the creatures. Well actually the damsels have gotten aggressive...and killed eachother, but besides that.

The snails are Astreas...I just couldnt remember the name.

Anyways the blue legged crabs are all smaller than the red legged ones. They seem to do fine together. No snails have ever been killed for shells.

The banded coral shrimp doesnt bother anyone. He will snap at a fish if it comes to close...but he doesnt do any hard. If the skunk cleaner gets too close, he will jump at him, but the skunk is way too fast, and is actually larger of the 2.

I havent had any problems w/ the star. Don't know how it could cause a problem, unless it eats all the bristle stars.

What kind of lighting do you have now?

well when the blue leg hermits grow up and get large i think youll stat to see alot of empty shells.

the starfish doesnt kill anything u can see. sandsifters eat the fauna from the sand bed, hence they sift it. this is bad cause you want to keep all the fauna in your bed its what makes it alive.

cbs are known to cut open the belly of corals in search of food. they also will go after sleeping fish that are small like clowns and especially gobies.

For lighting...i just have a weak flourescent bulb.

Well the i havent had any problems w/ the baded so far..but i havent ventured into corals.

The star cant get very deep in the bed...because the bottom layer is crushed coral..and he seems to only go down through the sandbed. I still have a ton of bristle worms and pods hanging out...so i doubt he's doing too much damage. One small Star in a 46 shouldnt be that big of a deal..but i guess ill find out in the long run.... :o

it goes after micro fauna. its called micro cause you cant see it. you really dont know the damage hell cause in the long run. youll see it with ammonia nitrates and nitrites start to rise tho.

You said that his tank will start losing its fauna and their will be amonia, nitrite, and nitrate spikes. Some people run barebottom tanks and dont have that fuana and their water parameters are fine. No offense. :D

yea but they still have fauna in the tank. they almost always run a fuge also. that throws the pods and fauna into the main tank and it livesmore in the lr then the ls since there isnt any. theres no need for a star in that tank so the typical goby doesnt eat enough to deceimate the population like a star will.
