LOL...sorry to laugh but that is funny.
I wouldn't have spared his life.
I would have made him suffer like he made that clam suffer. I would have placed his arse in fresh water and let him enjoy that till the last breath.
No cheap crab is worth a beautiful and doscile clam.

...this joker has taken up pretty much all my available sand bed. the crocea is between 4"-5". Next to it is this wicked brain that can be as tight as a racquetball, or larger in diameter than a 2 litre soda bottle.
...sorry 'bout the reflection. still learning my stuff

how do you you folks get your crocea's to open up so large? I do bi-weekly water changes, keep parameters stable at a good level, feed with DT's Phytoplankton.
seudo, what are your tricks? I'm jealous!

im guessin he has better then your 1 175 and most likely 2 x 250 . they require bright bright light to obtain best colors and optimal growth and being open is jus a fact that they are happy and feedin. a smiple test to see if your clams are healthy is to poke your finger towards them to see if they close up. also you can hold them in your hand and feel them tense up. if neither of those tests work you may want to look into better lights as that shows your clam isnt in the best of health.

true that! clams love light. unfortunately i have no more space for lights, and likely will not go thru the trouble to swap my 175w MH for a 250w. My crocea does close up when disturbed...if I get near it's flesh it recedes back into the shell, and if i pick it up it will close pretty darn tight. so all is well now i guess.
I really would like to move him off the bed and into my LR formations. Any tips?

i dont know the types or there preferences. all i knows is that thers half tht perfer the rocks and half that like a sand bed to dig their foot into. read up and im sure youll find out the best place for him.

I have very intense lights. I run a chiller and lots of fans to help keep the water at 77 deg. Not to include a very high power bill. My lights consit of.
4 10k 400w MH's
2 10k 96w PC's
2 03 96w PC's
They like light and I give them light. I also feed DT's and some other suplements. The T crocea's Like to be on the Rocks with lots of light. I have a total of 15 T crocea's and they all seem happy.

I would find the spot that you would like the clam to be in and slowly move it to that spot over the next week or so. I would move it to a middle spot in your rock for a few days and then move it to the spot you want after that. Try and make sure that is is nice and flat for the clam to attach to. Just remember the closer to your lights the better. You and your clam will be happier.

like i said theres 2 types 1 likes rock 1 needs sand. if this is a rock dwelling clam then yes this is correct

if its a sand dwelling this is compltely wrong. i strongly suggest you do some research from goggle or ask ph cause he knows what can go where.
clams need to go where they belong and if they go in the sand when they like rocks theyll become unhappy.

Jeredh since you have a "crocea between 4"-5"" & lower lighting and the Crocea is a rock dewling clam I would say the recomendation to move your clam up to the rocks is a correct one but that is only my opion and what I have done with the 15 that I own. Here are some links that will help you resaearch.

as usual, you fine folks are priceless. i will research and make a move with my crocea. I have a relatively flat chunk of LR just in mind for the clam. Now, should I take care to gently "wedge" him between the rock-scape? This question might be answered after I follow those links that seudo suggested.
Seudo...I am coming to Fort Lauderdale this Thursday night! Me and friends are taking a cruise www.jamcruise.com
I'll be in Thursday night. Any suggestions for a nice brew pub or something where I can get a beer? PM me if you wish....
Many many thanks,

how is your T. crocea doing under the new MH?
Mine died last week. I wish I could figure out what may have killed mine, but that topic is up for deabte. After talking to some others, I've learned that the crocea has the finest and perhaps most sensitive gills of the giant clams. maybe i stirred my water too much in a WC. i'm not really sure what happened, but i'm p!ss#ed
i wish i could say a hermit is responsible but, there is something else involved.
about your lights jason, also what kind of lights were you using before the crocea it got the royal MH pendant treatment. you have a nice pendant
truly sad,

my crocea is great its growing around a 1/8 inch a month.before the addition of the 250w 10k MH it was a 48'' 260w PC fixture with a extra 65w PC behind it.the tank the clam came from also had PC ligfhting on it.
its sad to hear about your clam.get the bugs worked out before you try another.

$65.00 plus shipping at clamsdirect.com
shipping will get you though. my advice is to combine resources with a friend or two, and order multiple clams and then split the shipping costs.
