You should also do a poll for sex?
Male Or Female :)
I think it will be mostly male, but an interested on how many females are involved with reef tanks :)
O.K.
I am a big 50 year old female, feeling like 25, have been for years. Been in saltwater tanks for 13 years. Live on a farm, that is probably what keeps me young.
I sure hope that I am not the only 46 plus female on this board.

Si, glad that you are into reefing and are a female.
Not to sound like a fool, but do the LFS in the midwest stock a lot of Marine products and livestock?
I always wondered how the prices varied from state to state :)
Just wanted some input to see if you did most of your purchases online or at LFS
Matrix,
The LFS in the Midwest do stock a lot of different products and livestock, corals. Prices are fairly high. I would say from where I live I have to travel around 35 to 50 miles East or West to go to a store. I get my salt (Tropic Marin) from the Internet. LFS can't compete with them as I usually order 4 or 5 buckets at a time. This usually last me 4 to 5 months.
I have ordered tons of corals from the Internet. Usually they are a lot smaller but cheaper then the LFS, but they do grow and you can frag them off eventually to acquire different corals via trading.
The last two fish that I acquired, an emperator juvenile and a blue angel juvenile, I drove to Coralville, IA to Sea of Marvels. Took a couple of very large leathers and traded with him so got my one angel for free.
I am proud to say that I have a friend that is a female who is about to open a new saltwater store in Altoona, IA. She has a massive setup in her home and even grows her own phytoplankton. Her expertise and knowledge will be a plus in her new store. Her private grand opening is in fact this coming saturday.
We have a small group of people in the Central part of Iowa that periodically meet and we go on tours of tanks and have a frag swap, etc about every 6 months. It seems to grow larger at each gathering.
I think the Internet does have better deals on dry goods unless you can't wait, usually have a guarantee on live delivery for corals. Fish are iffy on the net, I have received a few that had the classic case of cyanide poisening. When they finally expired the guarantee was gone. So it makes you leary on that point.
Here in the Midwest we don't have that many LFS, so they can pick their price. Just have to watch.
Sorry if I kept going on and on.

Si, That is what I thought. I wanted to setup a forum topic, where we select one product i.e. Salt and we input the prices that we have at our LFS and that we can find online. What do you think about that?
I think it would help many of our members that are looking for consumables for their tanks.

BTW Si, i'm glad you're here...i'm sure we'll all look to your wisdom as you have some 13 years experience!:D

Matrix, I think that would be a very good idea, I am sure there are a lot of people with a lot of different contacts that could save us all some money.
Phistio, Thank you. Don't know about my knowledge as each of our ideas are different. It all depends on what works for you.
Thanks again.
