New Lighting for 29 gallon tank. I have once again upgraded my lighting. I bought a 2*55 Watt Bright Kit from AHSupply.com. I made my own housing for it and it turned out great. email me if you have questions, saltyfishboy@hotmail.com

Here is what I did. I used poplar wood to make the housing. I built it to fit on top of the tank and not hang over. Below are pictures of the housing after construction.

Next I applied a water sealer/stain to avoid warping issues in the future.

Then I installed the lights. I thought all the wiring would be tricky but it was diagrammed very well...making it very easy.

Looks good. Only thing I would change since you have your ballast under the hood. Replace the wire nuts with butt connectors and heat shrink wrap. You wouldn't want to get a short circuit.

Your hood is similar to mine with the exception that mine hangs over the edge (hate that plastic wood look). I also made mine hinge up in the front for feeding/cleaning and back for replacing the bulbs.

Very nice looking hoods :!: :!:
You might want to think about installing a fan or two in the hood, it can get pretty hot in there especially with the ballasts.

The lights dont get too hot ...there is plenty of fresh air going under the hood through the back. Next time I am going to make it go over the edge of the tank...no matter how much sealent you put on the wood...it still expands and contrasts.

I see you have a workhorse ballast which model do you have?
How do you like it?

Could you possible repost your photos or email them to me? I want to make one myself and it alot easier to see a picture or two first.

Thank,
