here's my first brain. i invested in him less than 48 hours ago. i am currently using recommended dosages of Reef Pure's concentrated calcium supplement (have done 10 days of Ca supplementing) and just recently started using DT's Live Marine Phytoplankton food.

:?: How long do I feed phytoplankton to my tank? Currently all the coral I have is this brain, plus really small rock with some zooanthids and some red mushrooms on it. The instructions on my phytoplankton food says feeding at least every other day is recommended.
FYI, I just started my tank 8 weeks ago.

interesing idea. i could easily turn off my 2 powerheads and the protein skimmer. good twist on this thread jason...I will have to do some searching and asking people about turning off filters and such when feeding.

my gut feeling and immediate reaction would be no. I say this b/c mechanically speaking, pumps and motors do not like to be turned off/on.
similarly, your computer HATES being shut down everytime you walk away from it.

I imagine I will always keep my powerheads to circ the water. the protein skimmer....hrmmmmm, i don't know enough about how the skimmer reacts with the phytoplankton.

well i think it says on the bottel
skimmers dont have a grave effect.
i turn off my big power head at nite with the
lights.i read once the corals enjoy a calmer
water at nite as in the wild.
