First post - new starting today. Lots of great information here from involved hobbists. Any telltale signs for the existence of a mantis in a tank and the easiest way to try and catch it.

Slow growing 2 yr old reef tank
48x18x30 110gal
100lbs live rock / 50 lbs live sand
45 gal sump with 3 backpacks for skimming

mantis shrimp huh  well for starters if you hear a loud snapping inside your tank then more then likely you have one :( if you dont catch him in time he could harm your fish and inhabitants  even eat them. he has a very killer snap to him that acts like a stinger to catch his pray, its a spring action stick that he lunges at his pray to imobilize them while he takes them in to his den or living quarters so he can have a feast  get him out fast! hope this helps you out a bit......you can get a mantis trap at any petstore in your area. if you can stick a plastic cleansed coke bottle in the tank and put a little raw food in it like a peice of a shrimp or mussel and when he goes in there grab him out quikly of the tank
