OK, this is going to sound a bit wierd...

I have/had a dark brown brittle star, with the little spines all over its body, that was easily 8 inches from tip to tip. He was real healthy and always out moving around the CC with both the light on and not the light on. About 1.5 months ago, he disappeared. He was real cool and I and my kids were very bummed.....I looked around the tank and decided at the time that he must have perished and my cleaner crew took care of him. I did move things around a little to make sure that he wasn't decomposing somewhere.

This morning, I saw him again. The first time in 1.5 months :D . At least I think it is him. He is lighter in color ALOT smaller maybe 5 inches from tip to tip. He also looks different in his tentacles/arms. The last .5 - .75 inches of his arms are almost bare of the spines. It looks like new growth with little spines starting to grow on them. The center of him looks healthy and the arms closest to the center are full of spines, just lighter in color. He used to be dark brown-almost black. Now he is sandy to dark brown....

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Could this be the same star? A couple of weeks ago, I was missing a wrasse and tore up the tank looking for it. He ended up being found outside of the tank, he jumped out of a small opening by my protein filter  I am thinking that this might have jogged him out of his hiding place and he has been moving around when the light is off without me noticing him. I have to say that between my 4 kids and me, someone regardless of the light being on or not is always looking into the tank. I would think that chances of him moving about without someone seeing him are pretty slim.

OK, I am the moron. Just noticed that this is in the wrong section... Should I repost it in the General Reef Discussion Forum or leave it be?

Thanks..

Could very well be the same star, mine disappeared in the LR, and was smaller when it came out. I fed it bloodworm cubes, and it was just fine.

Too bad about the wrasse. A long time ago, I had a snowflake eel that I would have to retrieve from the drip plate in the top of the wet/dry filter. Then I didn't see him for a long time. Finally, I thought I could see where he had died behind the live rock and was decomposing, but the cleanup crew was getting rid of him.

About 3 years later when moving the tank, I found a dried up tree branch behind the tank. On closer inspection, the tree branch had eyes. Yup, the eel had somehow made it into the overflow box, and out of the tank. Even though I had carefully covered every escape path I could find.
