Subject in question located just below the blue damsel. It is about .75" in diameter. It sometimes looks like pictured, other times a bit more full and yet other times a bit elongated and thinner. Any ideas?

Does it move? or is it always in the same spot?

It is on a piece of live rock that I just picked up the other day. So far the creature in question has remained stationary.

it's hard to identify...but i would for the most part say it's an anemone of sorts...

from the picture, we can tell it's benthic, which means it attaches to rocks or the sea floor...there appears to be a "foot"...

whether or not it fits into the phylum cnidaria, is beside me, all though i assume it is a cnidarian as it appears to have a mouth as well, putting it further into the coelenterate -- of the phylum coelenterata which is characterized by a central mouth usually surrounded by tentacles bearing stinging cells.

can anyone else further identify it???

It's probably a species of mushroom. Maybe it hasn't open up all the way.

it sort of looks like a Discosoma nummifere. But it's a bit hard to tell without it being open. I could be wrong.
