Hi! We have had a yellow tang for over one year in a 30 gallon tank and she has been fine all this time. However, a few weeks ago we started noticing that her top fins do not look relaxed. She looks like she is in a constant state of shock/freaked out  We had only seen the fins like that when we knew that she was in a stressed out situation (when we added a new fish and when we moved into our new place.) We cannot figure out why she would be so stressed and how we can make it better. Her more pale color confirms that she is stressed out, but we can't figure out why? We are going to get a bigger tank soon, but want to know what else we could do to help our yellow tang. Thanks for any help!

how big is the tang now? 30 gallons is small for a yellow tang - most tangs are speed demons over the top and sides of the reef.

Most of the people who post on this forum agree that a yellow tang should be kept in 55 gallons min. Most people think that 75 gallons is the minimum - with lots of swimming room.

so i guess it's possible that your tang has outgrown the tank and is starting to feel the ill effects.

What are your water parameters?
