Hi, I'm in the (very) early planning stage of setting up a large tank, and figure one of the larges single purchases will be live rock - around 200 lbs worth! So I'm trying to do a lot of research on live rock sellers.
I found this site on line and thought I'd see if anyone has had any experiences with them. They have a pretty wide selection, in terms of where the rock comes from. Apparently, they receive the rock and put it into holding tanks for about 4 days. Their main pitch seems to be that this allows them to hand pick the rock for you (and claim that this means no broken pieces), and that this time in the tank helps the curing process - they are very upfront about saying that 4ish days in the holding tank are nowhere near enough to consider the rock cured. Their prices include shipping, and seem reasonable compared to other vendors.
Also, I know this isn't fair, but they're from California, and I tend to shy away from CA vendors. I'm from CA myself (now in OR), so I know that's odd. I generally feel like their prices are higher, and customer service isn't as good.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any input on this, or any other liverock provider. I'm not a big fan of the purple color of Figi rock, and am trying to find something a little different. I will probably try to get rock from a couple different locations, and possibly dealers.
BTW, here's their website if you want to check them out: http://www.anchofish.com/
Thanks for any feedback.
