75gal Oceanic reef ready,80lbs. cured live rock.

I'm 20 days into cycling and I'm stressing big time on this brown algae.I belive I've read this is a natrual part of conditioning.

Ammonia peaked at 6ppm,now at 0.15
Nitrite peaked at 5.0, now 1.0-0.50
Nitrate is at 5.0
pH has dropped from 8.2 to 8.0
Water Temp. 78
Salinity 1.024

Is there anything I can do to slow down this algae(or do I want to)?

Was planning on getting a 75 gal. clean up crew from Flying Fish when my Nitrate and Ammonia levels hit 0.

Thanks in advance for anyone responding.

Cyno!!!
1)what kind of water are you using?
2)How long do you keep the lights on?
3)true this normal during setup.
4)Clean up crew would be a great idea check out saltwaterfish.com

Likely is Cyano algae, A.K.A. red slime, not too easy to get rid of either. Brown algae also occurs in a newly setup tank, most likely from high phosphates.

We need to know a little more on your set-up, including:

1. What type of water are you using, as Irisservice said.
2. How long is your lighting on?
3. Did you recently add anything new to the tank, such as any additives?

PH =)

Here's what I would do:
Find some razor blades and use them on your glass to clean off any film etc. Be careful because you can very easily scratch the glass. Eventually it should stop growing once your tank is completely cycled. And a purchase of a protein skimmer would be very helpful.

If it is sheets of algae that completly cover the rocks then it probably is Cyano Bacteria.
I think that you are refering to brown diatoms. This is totally natural in the cycling process. I would definatley put in some hermits and snails now.
They will take care of the algae bloom.
If it is Cyano you could try dosing with marycin II. It will kill the bacteria.
