Hello:

I am finally setting up my first reef tank, 60 gallon. Has anyone ordered live rock on-line from an Los Angeles source? After hearing of other people's live rock disappointments after having it shipped overnight or two day shipping, I was thinking to order from an online source in LA (to save money) and then pick it up myself.

My LFS has Fiji live rock for $4.99, and I was hoping to do a little better.
Thanks for any help.

P.S. Does Arnold have a reef tank? If so, I might vote for him
tommorrow...

I like the idea of using fish stores in your area. Shop around until you find one with exceptional looking tanks and then use them for your supplier. That way you can take your pick of stock they have and choose the sizes and shapes and growth potential you want.....Also they can be a valuable knowledge resource too.

Marine Depot is in Orange and has a Will-Call window. you can pick it up htere and save shipping charges. I used live rock from two sources: PETown in Lake Forest and 7 Seas in San Pedro.

You can try Jeff Exotic Fish in Gardena. They have amazing prices and some amazing live rock, etc. I bought about 40 lbs of a mix of Fiji, Vinisi and Tonga Branch rock. All had neat growth and many colors of coraline. I think my Fiji rock was only $2.99 a lb.

The ability to pick what pieces you want is very nice too.
