If I use a pendant MH on my corner bowfront do I remove the glass hood? Will I need supplemental lighting such as actinic blue? If so how do I configure this over this odd shaped tank? any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks Dave

You don't have to remove glass, but it helps with a couple of things.
1)Heat - with hight power lights water temp increases without glass the heat escapees the tank.

2)Gass exchange - allows gass trapped in tank to escape

3)Intensity - the intensity of the light increases with out anything blocking it

These are just some.

As far as supplement lighting which MH bulb do you plan on using?

What color light are you looking for?

This is off hellolights.com web site with some modifications by me.

The 5,500K bulbs are considered natural sunlight, while the higher the
color temp, the more "blue" they become.

The 6,500K bulbs are very popular for those trying to grow SPS corals and clams. The

10,000K is the most popular color temp, with Ushio holding the current "crisp white" standard. Coralife 10,000K is considered on
the "blue" side. The Xanium 10,000K is considered "violet/pinkish" in appearance. The Vion 10,000K is considered a warmer white.
Keep in mind that MH bulbs will render different colors visually, depending on ballast type and age.

My Favorite
Aqualine AB makes 10,000K HQI Double Ended which is really a 13,000k which does not require any supplements. Super white light but requires HQI.

Radium 20,000K bulb this is the bulb that everyone is talking about requires no supplement but gives off a blue tint

Most MH bulbs 10,000K or lower
are used with actinic supplementation.
