Hi, New to the Lounge

i have a 92 bow front corner tank. In it is 40 lbs. Livesand, 25 lbs. crushed coral (Very Fine), 120 tonga LR, (1) Power sweep 802, Seaclone 150, Fluvul 404 canister filter. (1) 36" sunglow 35w (1) 36" 10,000k 35w and (1) 24" 100% actinic 25w. My question is does this tank sound like it is set up ok to have 1 Porcupine Puffer, 1 Tang, 2 Lm blennys, 2 purc's?

I would like to add a few corals & Inverts. as time go's by. things like a carpet for the clowns. Pagoda, just things for color and contrast.

My reef tank will come after i learn on this tank.

That tank sounds fine for the fish but is severly underlit for corals. Given its ODD shape you might have to go with a MH lighting setup to provide proper light for corals.

What are the dimentions of the tank. I know its not a standard shape but overall how long and how tall (top to bottom) is it.

while the current setup you have is fine for fish...and even FOWLR...if you are to put a carpet for the clown to host in...you'll need a slight lighting overhaul...

if you wanted some corals no with your current set up, i might recommend ricordea muchrooms...they vary in color, and are great to start out with...

the fish you stated have no "real" lighting necessities...so they should be fine in your current set up.

Given the tanks depth of 24" and its width of 36" you have a few options.

If you want total light coverage then I see 2 X 250W MH's about 1" from the sides and then 2 36" VHO actinics.

If your ok with having a bright area in the center bleeding of to some slighly darker areas to the sides then 1 center mounted 250W MH with 2 36" VHO Actinics would work. Just would hve to place the anenome in the center area of the tank.

Course that is my view on the situation. Lighting is so user preference that I am sure you will hear 10 different suggestions on how to light up a tank of that shape.

even trickier (is that a word?) is trying to get the lights across the tank...

while it is an odd shape...i personally don't see anything wrong with it...although, sometimes obstacles have to be approached differently...a tank like this has a pretty hard time to get "equal, balanced lighting, while looking natural" as the rear portion of the tank is the hardest to get light to.

one way, aside from what ever light combination you decide to go with...would be to add a small 13w or so PC 50/50 ballast just to fill the dark(er) corner with some light to balance it out...just a thought...

good luck!
