I've read articles from www.garf.org that look very encouraging regarding making your own live rock. I have a friend in Florida that made his own but put it in a freshwater tank. I'm looking to make mine out of portland cement and crushed oyster shell, as did my friend in FL. I've read a few articles on it and it seems like a great thing. Have to cure it for 4-8 weeks until the rock stops leaching silicates and stops raising the ph of freshwater, then you can put it in saltwater. Has anyone made their own live rock already? I'd like some tips or pictures. Thanks.

if done it according to garf's instructions. this was about a year ago and right now i can't tell the difference between "real" live rock and bought live rock besides the ones that i made into specific shapes. i think it's a great idea... cheap, enviromentally freindly, and your own!
