I have a Percula Clown fish that doesn't like my Condy Anemone. I found out why after I bought it. What anemone would he like and fit into a reef tank?

AMPHIPRION PERCULA (LACEPEDE, 1802)
Clown Anemonefish
Original description: As Lutjanus percula, from specimens collected at New Britain (now part of Papua New Guinea)
Colour features and size: Bright orange with three white bars, the middle with forward-projecting bulge; bars often bordered with black that varies in width. Maximum length about 80 mm.
Similar species: Amphiprion ocellaris is nearly identical, but has 11 (rarely 10) dorsal spines compared to 10 (rarely 9) in A. percula; the spinous (anterior) part of the dorsal fin of A. ocellaris is taller (its height fits about 2.1-2.9 in the head length compared to 3.1-3.3 in A. percula); A. ocellaris never has a thick black margin around the white bars. These two species do not have overlapping distributions.
Host anemone species: Heteractis crispa; H. magnifica; Stichodactyla gigantea.
Melanistic variation: Limited melanism is evident in fish that live with anemones of the genus Stichodactyla: the margin around the white bars is deep black, and, in some specimens, considerably expanded.
Distribution: Northern Queensland and Melanesia (New Guinea, New Britain, New Ireland, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu).

it depends on what clowns they are, are they ocellaris or percula's, these two are very simular and are hard to tell apart, and are they wild caught or tank raised? because if tank raised, bets are that they won't bother with a host because they won't know what one is!!!!! if wild caught, try a carpet anenome (although i would stay away from these) or a malu or even better a bubble tip

Actually I got a Sebae clown and it loves the bubble and LTA, my tank raised clown won't go near either one. Thanks for your advice.

I JUST WENT THROUGH THE SAME THING, FIRST I HAD A RITTERI, THEY LOVED IT. IT DIED, THEN I GOT A LONG TENTACLE, THEY HATED IT. THEN THEY TOOK TO MY FLOWER POT CORAL, AGGRIVATED ME. THEN I BOUGHT THEM A SEBAE, ONE HAS TAKEN TO IT THE OTHER STILL RESIDES IN THE FLOWERPOT. THE REASEARCH I HAVE DONE SAYS CARPETS AND RITTERI ARE THERE NATURAL CHOICE BUT THEY WILL TAKE TO BUBBLE TIP AND SEBAE MOST OF THE TIME IN AN AQUARIUM ENVIRONMENT. GOOD LUCK THEY ARE PICKY LITTLE BOOGERS.

I got a sebae clownfish and he likes the bubble tip. The other tank raised clown hasn't taken to the bubble tip or the LTA.

hey, i have two wild perculas, and i have a number of rose anemones, from splitting. they havent took to them in six or seven months. so i went looking and found a brown sebae anemone. they took to it right away and are now breeding all the time. fare warning though. dont buy a white one. they are bleached and have a good chance of dying. hope this helps austin
