Here Is The Updated Info For The Tank Of The Month Contest:
http://www.reeflounge.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=635
Please follow the directions to have your tank entered.
Here's my entry. I want to be clear on the fact that this is a tank in transition and I've concentrated on my live rock and it's place and structural beauty in the tank.I love my LPS and my limited SPS but the rock will always win the day.
I'd like to make my picture that big.

Please rate this 90 gallon reef tank. As you can see this reef tank is nothing exotic, but I have been able to make this tank virtually maintenance free. All the mushrooms and soft coral (excluding the pulsing Xenias) were bought on the same single rock. After 6 months I broke the rock into several pieces and scattered around the tank and within a week everything was attached to the base rock. I have simple but colorful fish and sum crustaceans and invertebrates. I only use Kent chemicals and only use them once a week. For the 7 months I have had this tank, I have yet to do a water change. I replenish the water and change the filter twice a month. I use a 120 gallon protein skimmer and a small hang behind wet dry. I have found that the rocks and sand are the major filters for this tank. I have 3 watts per gallon of light. I have never had a loss of life of any kind in this tank for over 7 months. I've learned through trial and error that everybody with experience in this field (professionals) has their own convinced way of having a successful reef tank. My tank is enjoyable, easy to maintain, satisfying, and rewarding without the stress of wondering if you are maintaining it successfully. I'm not trying to discredit reef keepers with more experience, I am simply revealing a simple maintenance schedule for the amateur reef tank seeker who wants it all and wants it now! I've had numerous house guests request that I set up their first reef or aggressive tank. That feels good and makes you appreciate your tank more. I have discovered a way to set up a reef tank with little to know experience and begin to enjoy and appreciate everything about it in a matter of hours. It is easier than it is made out to be. The tanks I have seen on this site are fantastic and I hope that my will at least be compared and considered to be the best reef tank. Besides my future spouse and her kids, the reef tank is the one thing that I am most proud of.
Thanks for reading,
Vance H. Olvey
P.S.,
The photos provided were taken late at night and only the blue lights (artificial moonlight) are on.
