Right now I am using bottled water as my top off source. I was wondering if it would be to my benefit to invest in a RO or a RO/DI unit. Is one better than the other?

It all depends on what's in the water....all bottled water is not the same. You should be able to email the bottler for a breakdown of how the water has tested. Some will even give you some brief information on the bottle such as nitrate levels, etc. Obviously, you are looking for a source void of nitrates, phosphates, heavy metals, etc......if possible.

To directly answer your question....if adequate source water is found, I do not see the need for a specific RO unit, but it certainly isn't a bad idea.

That seems pretty expensive to use bottled water?? what size tank do you have?
RO water is probably pretty close to bottled water however RO/DI is much better for your fish tank.
