i have a powder blue tang, he eats nori like crazy cant keep the stuff in the tank eats it right away. question is he gets a litttle stomach like he is ready to explode but doesnt seem to gain weight, overall.
went to lfs and looked @ some of thier powder blues and they look thick all over. mine doesnt.
should i be concerned but he is eating for about 20 fish.

Is nori the only food item the tang is getting?

They should get a variety of herbavor foods. I feed mine primarily fortified marine spurlina flakes as well as other enhanced flakes and pellet foods geared toward enhancing their immune system and overall health. Nori alone will not provide what they need.

If buying from the LFS, you should be able to find decent quality spurlina foods as well as vitamin additives to soak the foods in like Zoe (http://marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=KM3293) and selcon (http://marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=AM1511). I would recommend the vitamin be used about once a week. Concentrated garlic (http://marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=KM3631) is also a good "once in a while" food addition.

I high recommend OSI (http://marinedepot.com/a_food_osi.asp?CartId=), Ocean nutrition (http://marinedepot.com/a_food_on.asp?CartId=) and if you can find it HBH (http://www.jlaquatics.com/cgi-bin/shopping/jalstore.cgi?user_action=list&category=Aquarium%20Supplies;Food%20and%20Vitamins ;HBH).

Nori should be used as a grazing food or to help with vitamin addition via soaking. I would not recommend it as a main source of nutrition. Also make sure the nori is untoasted.

I feed my Powder blue a frozen mixture (Aqua Yums) one day and then OSI Marine Flakes mixed with OSI Spirulina Flakes on the other days. I hang Red, Brown, and Green Algae Seaweed for them (Tangs and Angel) once and sometimes twice a day switching the rotation. Powder blue is growing and happy, as are my other tangs and Angel!
