Hello,
I am new to this forum. I have had a picasso trigger for the past year in an established 100 gal. I just purchased a porky today. I tested the water and noticed the nitrates are climing. How will this affect the new puffer? I have done a water change and it doesn't seem to be going down. Any help would be very much appreciated.
thanks,
Mike

Most probabley due to how you feed. Are they target fed or is the food free floating? How many other fish besides the two mentioned.
If you have filtration with sponges or filter floss it will need to be rinsed regularly to prevent excess ammonia which in turn will cause continually high nitrates.
Any additional info you can provide?

I normally target feed my trigger. The puffer hasn't been interested yet though. He seems to be not doing too well. He isn't swimming much. Just sort of hanging at the top of the water. I don't know if he is still just adjusting or......

Could be the puffer is still adjusting to it's surroundings. Not eating may often be from getting too much of the wrong foods. The LFS was most probably feeding it the same food all the time which can "plug" puffers up. Have you seen it poop?
How is your GPH and when was the last time the PH was tested?
Any aggression from the trigger?
