View Full Version : Pomacanthus imperator
what other tank mates are compatible with the emperor angel?
Can u house more than one angel in a tank?
it says u shouldnt keep one in anything less than a 100gal tank.....besides the size they grow what else could be the reason or could u have one until it out grew the tank?

Are you talking about putting it in your current 50 gallon tank with the two tangs? If so that tank is already overstocked, IMO. I would not keep a fish that gets over a foot long even in a 100 gallon tank. I think it would appear cramped.
Several people have kept larger fish when they are small in smaller tanks but it is not recommended, because what happens if you can't get that bigger tank? or the LFS refuses to take the fish? You have a fish in a very small tank with nothing you can do about it.
I too love those angels but would not consider putting one in my 75 gallon or possibly my 110 gallon that I may get. Thjey just would look too cramped to me.
Sorry for the bad news!
Happy Reefing AJ~

I have also been researching big angel fish. Most sources for an emperor angel require a minimum of 135 gallon. I have a 125 gallon long tank that I am considering stocking with a emperor angel or queen. You might be able to get away with it if the tank is long, so that the fish has as much swimming room as possible. I dont think it would be to hard to get rid of one of these fish to a LFS when they get to a descent size. They are beautiful and would attract lots of attention making it easier for the LFS to sell. Plus they would make lots of money on it. And if the worst happen that no LFS would take it then thats just a great excuse for getting a bigger tank.
Ive heard that u cant put more then one angle in a tank together, or is it that u cant put the same type of angle in a tank together?

I'm no expert, but I was just at one of my LFS where I saw the effect of a flame angel that jumped over into a lemon peel angels tank. The flame angel got beat up pretty bad.

My only experience with multiple angles is seeing it at the local fish store. I say a gorgeous emeror angle with a blue face angle (both full grown) getting along. There was also a third angle (looked like a french angle) with them.. Tank looked to be around 200+ gallons. I only observed them for about 5 minutes but the owner of the store said that he hasnt had any trouble with them in there.
