Fish suggestions

Hi there, I am new to saltwater aquariums, but had always wanted to try one. My tank has been up and running for 3 months now, no problems with any of my parameters and really getting the hang of water changes and everything. I christened the tank with a black and gold chromis and all went well, I have always wanted a flame hawkfish and they have both been very compatible tank mates for the last month. My tank is 40 g FOWLR. I just want to go slowly and I know my hawk limits me for some species I can keep (although he has yet to snack on my snails), but can you suggest 1 or 2 other tank mates I can consider for down the road. Thank you!

Ok so you have a hawkfish? If you do then you need fish that cannot be easilied swallowd by the hawkfish.

Hawkfish will spend most of their time at the bottom, and they aren't particularly fast... try to get fish that prefer the top of the water column, and can swin fast.
Blue/green chromis will swin all over, but should be quick enough to avoid any problems.

I dont think you would have much of an issue with any fish larger than him. He should grow to about 4". The hawkfish isnt whats going to limit your choice of fish to keep but more the tank size of the tank. To get bigger fish you need to have more room for them.
