Hey,
Just thought I would add my 75 gallon to this.
Its 3 yrs old
2-175 AB 10K's 2-110 v.h.o. actinics & 2-55 p.c. actinics
Skimmer is a Berlin H.O. ( Worthless IMO )
Aprox. 75 lbs LR
Aprox. 90 lbs LS adding another inch in a while, lost some over time.
Tank is pretty barren at the moment, it used to be a sps dominated reef with a few softies. I have decided in the last few months to flip flop ( Do something a lil different than the sps rage ) and have a softy dominated w/ clams and a few sps.
Also I am in the process of finally upgrading this system to a closed loop, will also be redesigning the hood etc...
Anyhow here it is as it looks now with one exception the left side was redone last week and is now only 3/4 the size of the right. Also the 2 bommies do not touch in the middle anymore. http://members.aol.com/legion12572/images/10-06-02_full_front.jpg

Thanks,
Im not sure if im into softies more or not. I think that I was just trying to be a bit different than the majority of reefers. Seems now its acro city in most tanks, and dont get me wrong I to started going down this path. I just want something different, there will still be some sps in there when I get through with it. The dominate coral though will be soft however.
Thanks for the compliment again.

Softies rule! :D And who can ever get tired of seeing a yellow tank, can't wait to have one when the 180g goes up. Nice tank.

first off, nice tank! Your yellow tang is gorgeous!
Second, I noticed when you said "there will still be some sps in there when I get through with it. The dominate coral though will be soft however." As you might know, soft corals will reliese a certain toxin into the water, if they feel even the slightest bit thretened. SPS corals are very sensitive to this toxin, and could die from it even in a matter of hours. Softies are also more agresive than most SPS corals, which means they can easily kill one. If you are trying to mix them, I would do it like this. Start out with softies on the bottom, have less current at the bottom also. Work your way up with some LPS corals, and at the top have the SPS corals. But, you can mix them, just keep them a good 5-12 inches away, depending on the lenght of the coral, and even its arms. Soft corals are notorious for attacking the neighboring coral with one of its arms, that happened to drift over there with the current :-)

PH,
Yes I am well aware of the chem. warfare between the softies and sps. That is one of the main reasons I decided on a double bommie reef structure. I am still not 100% decided on what exactly I will be restocking this tank with, just have a few ideas in my head. I have keep the softies and sps together for yrs already with no problems from competition. Its a matter of water quality maganement, and smart coral placetment/research.
Thansk though

Not to mention habituation or getting "comfortable" with each other being there. I had noticed in my nano when I added a small Sarco frag, it and my star polyps were at "war" for about a week and now "tolerate" each other. I have noticed this to a smaller degree in my softie tank as well.
