I have been wanting to start a nano reef tank for a long time now. And I decided to finally do it! I am wondering if I should get a 10 gallon tank and a eclipse double bulb hood or a eclipse 12 kit. Would 2 normal output flourescent bulbs be enough light for it or should I get 3? And will the filter in the hood be enough.Along with 15 pounds of live rock and 15 pounds of live sand. And dose calcium in the make up water. does this sound good??

it all depends on what you're going to want to keep in the nano...

you can retrofit better lighting in either of those tanks...both of which are good canidates! the choice is yours...

If you're going to do a fish only tank, the standard lighting is fine. If you plan to keep corals, I would suggest upgrading your lighting. You could easily fit two CSL Supernova PC 32 watt kits up in that hood.

Joey hi dain here. Since ur going to keep a nano-reef which entails corals i would recommend just getting a standard all glass 10 gallon aquarium, cheap yet nice. Fill it up with 15 or more lbs fiji live rock and lightwise coral life has a new powercompact called aqualight which is suprisingly cheaper than most other brands with equivilent output it is a full kit and pegs can be bought to hold it above the tank. Another good choice is the custom sealife electrolight retrofit if u have a hood.

I would do a 20 as it will give you more stability and allow you to keep more fish.

if u want to keep corals u need pc's or metal halides. In my nano i use the custom sealife retrofit kit <32 watts power compact.> It is easy to install and around $80.
