I'm thinking about getting a Deltec MC 500. Does anyone know how loud this skimmer is? I'm currently using an AquaC Urchin Pro, which is a loud but tolerable IMO. I don't want to get anything that's louder than it is but don't have many options since my sump space is limited. Would an MC 500 be any louder than an AquaC EV 120, or an Urchin or Remora Pro?

from what i hear its quiet... i have the model just under that and its honestly much quieter than my old remora (not to mention a better skimmer). You hear it slightly but barely... From what i've read that is one bad ass skimmer for a hangon...

deltec seems to be a great brand but still a bit too pricy for my blood, i was on their site and found this, good idea although it seems a bit pricy just to get lazy...

You get what you pay for with a skimmer. IMO it's the most important piece of equipment for your tank. If you are serious about this hobby it is in your best interest to buy a quality skimmer.
I look forward to hearing how you like it Mindy. Take lots of pictures.

It is very expensive, but you can get great skimmers like ER's for a lot less. I would gone with an ER or ATI months ago, but my sump skimmer section is too small for one. I was thinking about moving my baffle back a couple inches so I could fit one, but I checked Deltec's website and found one that would fit. The pump goes inside the skimmer so it saves quite a bit of space.

Isn't it ironic. Deltec holds the original patent for the needle wheel design, Euro Reef copies the design and sells their skimmers for less. You can't go wrong with either brand though.

It's working great. I love it. There's a little bit of vibration noise from the pump so I called Deltec today and ordered the dampening kit to cushion it.

It's pulling out more skimmate in one day than my old one did in a week :)
