This month's contest will be for the best picture of Green Star Polyps. Think about composition.

Everyone probably has this coral, so let's have a lot of entries. :)

I cut back on my stars in my tank since they grow like weeds but here is some of what is left. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd130/mantis-001/002.jpg

This is my entry.

I poked the polyps so they would close up.

Here is a picture of the colony. The polyps extend so much it looks like grass.

most people i find start out wanting it and as they spread and take over the tank people seem to go the other way with them, i know lots of friends that are trying to get rid of it but are having a tough time. Kinda like Xenia was for me...

Would just the "flaps" make it in shipping? I have enough to give away if anybody is interested. This past spring I told a few others that I would get them some but then I was called away for 6+ months.

Yep, you might want to try shipping them dry. Well you just put them between some wet paper towels and put that inside a plastic bag.

My GSP grows like a weed. Almost wish I never purchased it since it takes up SPS growing space.

They need to be isolated, but you may miss them when they are gone. If not you can end up with one of these. Purple with green polyp Acro??

Looks like the GSP completely encrusted the acro. Possibly a staghorn.

I would think there would be more pictures, this coral is so common.

About it being a pest, I agree, but you just have to prune them. I find my stainless steel tongs tear that stuff off pretty good. If nobody wants the parts, I toss em. It's like a damn weed, it will grow back. I have had limited success growing it on the back of the tank, overflow and over power head bodies. In my new 125 It has room to grow so I may let it claim a few rocks as I like the neon green color of my GSP.
