I want to buy a baby clown trigger. Right now I have a 55 gallon saltwater tank with 50 pounds live rock. A guy at the LFS said that I could buy a ten gallon tank, through some water from the tank in there with a sponge filter and medicate. I called a LFS a friend recommend and they said they had one $39.00. He also said he would give me the medice and some live sand for the 10 gallon tank. He also recommed that I pick it up in the moring because it gets extremly hot. I do realize this probably be the only fish I can have in there. Can you guys tell anything about clown triggers form personal experinces? Thanks for the helps once again.

The clown trigger (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?siteid=21&pCatId=245) is probably not the best suited for a 55g tank. As they mature clown tiggers can get upwards of 12" or larger. They would easily get up to half of that in the first year or so.

Clown triggers actually have a nasty temperment as well and caution should be used in their placement with other animals. Shrimps, crabs, snails and corals of anykind would be a definate no-no.

What you have been told about the basic QT is correct, although you should skip the live sand. Substrate in a QT is generally not a good idea and is also not neccessary. Use water from the main tank and some media from it's filter to colonize the newer tank. A heater, corner filter and some short pieces of PVC or other structures for hiding places is all that is required.

What medication will you be using and is the clown already infected or are you be cautious?

BTW... moving to the aggressive fish section... ;)

Cheers
Steve

I went to a new saltwater fish store and the guy there was really nice. He sold me a 10 gallon tank plus a rio 90 powerhead for 20 dollars. He also sold me some live rock for $2 per pound. To set in my quartine tank for hinding spots for fish. I found some white fungus on my Gold bar maroon clown. The guy gave me some medince to put in the tank to try to save the clownfish. Now I have a QT tank where the maroon clown is in. Hes already looking better. This also gave me a chance to move around my live rock to where I like it. I plan on buying some more small piece of live rock. I will wait until I find out the fate of my maroon clown. But I have a tenative date of July 1 to pick up the clown trigger. Considering if the clown fish is out of the quartine tank. If anybody lives in the portland area. Let me know so you can check place out. All of his fish are heatlhy and in beautiful tanks.

Keep in mind that medications for these types of fungus are usually broad spectrum antibiotics geared toward gram negative bacteria. They will destroy the bio-filter in most all cases. Keep a close eye on the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels.

The live rock placed in the QT will no longer be live as far as bacterial after treatment, but will still contain some animal life. Becareful using any type of copper based or other similar treatments in the QT with the rock. It is very absorbant and would no longer be of any use for anything other than the QT.
