Not trying to be a stickler....but a lion is not a reef fish. Gorgeous pic though. I will be doing one for aggressive fish soon though.

Reef safe fish, or reef fish ?

Here is a reef fish, but it's not considered reef safe. Same as the Lion.

Doesn't it just have to be in a reef setting for it to be a reef fish.....And it is totally reef safe. Been with my torch, button polyps, crabs and snails for almost 8 months

Sure, they don't eat coral. It's their habit of eating the other reef fish that puts them into the not reef safe group.

Can a fish be considered a predator if, in its life span, never gets a chance to eat a fish? Where is the line drawn as far as the food chain. Clownfish, tangs, anemones, and so on all eat some sort of "fish-matter" within the reef at some point. The term Reef-Safe seems a bit broad. Slightly off topic but I think the subscribers to this thread would have the best input.

this is also a very highly debatable topic too so nobody lose thier cool :)

Lets not play symantics...this is supposed to be a fun category. I specified the guidelines for the contest. Do I really need to list all of the fish that are excluded from this category? I would certainley hope not.

To make it nice and clear for ever one: REEF SAFE FISH.

None of the following....
Triggers
Lions
Groupers
Sharks
Anglers
Non Reef Safe Wrasses
Eels
Large Angels
Most Butterflys
Rays
etc etc

I think I may be misleading Pnut. The post was not to disrupt the "friendly competition", merely to be educated. I'm sure that many people reading this have been given faulty information (i.e. lionfish, eels, and triggers are reef safe) otherwise there would be no demand for educational sites such as RL. I personally own reef safe fish....just had the impulse of showing off a fish in a reef.
