I have a brittle Star (serpent star?) and a pencil urchin for the last 2 days they have been fighting looks like 2 monsters from a godzilla flick Is this the norm? The pencil urchin will find the star were ever hes hiding and start closing its spines on him and the star will start closing its arms on him like a octopuss.. Looks cool but im sure it wont end up well.. i've had to break them apart twice now.. i've been feeding the star squid but haven't been feeding the urchin anything (should I Be?)

I would consider removal of the searpent star. They will eat anything they can get their arms around and play hell on your sand bed. Check out Ron Shimek's website http://www.rshimek.com and look up his research and comments on what he calls THE GREEN DEATH.

The best way to keep a brittle star, is to feed them.
I have a green brittle and a black striped serpent in my reef tank and never an issue. As long as they are fed regularly, they will not be a problem.
Although they do not have eyes, they do have specialized tubes for sense of smell and light detection.
The pencil urchin, IMO will cause you more problems in the long run if you are planning a reef tank. In an FO, the urchin will most likley become some fish's dinner.
Cheers
Steve
